Semler Resigns

Frances Semler has resigned from the Parks Board.

So, I assume that the complaining will stop.

(I crack myself up sometimes . . .)

This is not funny Dan. A little brown skinned pervert with an Italian name has taken a grandma's scalp. That is not a laughing matter. I truely hope that the mayor doesn't say anything that will knock down her or her beliefs in response to this. If he does he is a bum. If he does he is inviting the fall of White people all over this city. It is so appropriate that this evil announcement came on Commie White Woman Chasing Junior Day.

Let's see here.

Funk makes a case for keeping Semler because he refuses to be or act like a politician.

Semler resigns because Funk's acting like a politician (Funk's statments in the KC Star that he's keeping Semler to pacify the northland).

I've fallen down the rabbit hole.

Now, Dan, please remember when I criticize Funk & Gloria, I am not criticizing you.

But when I look at this situation -the appointee the mayor goes on the line for...

takes HUGE hits over the last 7 months....

for an appointee who Funk and Gloria literally fell on their sword for....

to resign because she doesn't like the mayor and Gloria of all people; who actually accuses the mayor of betrayal in her resignation letter purposefully written on MLK day...

seems to be the height of inept leadership and management.

"literally fell on their sword"?!?!?!?

Really?!

When did that happen?

That sounds a whole lot more painful than a prostate exam.

(freaking illiterate morons)

Mrs. Semler takes a place in the long line of Funkhouser supporters who feel betrayed.

That wasn't me in that last comment, though I do agree that I don't recall Funk and Gloria literally falling on their swords. That said, this whole thing is pretty funny.

Funk allegedly stands behind Semler claiming some sort of principle over politics, which in the end he reveals to be his calculation that he thinks that all Northlanders are conservative racists who wouldn't support him otherwise. Semler then correctly sees that as a political move and resigns, slamming Funkhouser for betraying her.

How screwed up are the Mayors? Semler, one of the prime symbols of their failed leadership, resigns, and they still come off looking like inept fools. Amazing.

Irony, thy name is Funkhouser.

So, I assume that the complaining will stop.

I think a lot of the complaining will stop. Maybe I am naive.

But Semler did the right thing for the city. She put the city over her personal ideals. So I give her props for that.

Now maybe the coalition against Funk will start to crack and he can actually get to work.

I'm glad Funk actually had the wisdom to accept her resignation this time around.

After reading Semler's exceptionally gracious letter of resignation, I feel a terrible sense of loss that this fine woman will no longer be serving the residents of Kansas City. It was the all caps that convinced me.

Brent, my read on it is that Funk had absolutley no, and I mean absolutely no choice in the matter.

I think given Semler accused the Police Chief Corwin and the mayors of betrayal, and other things she said in that letter she's slammed the door on any other alternative.

That's just my read....

Walter I can point to at least $80,000 reasons why you are being naive.

I think Semler resigned because Funk asked her not to attend the Minuteman Convention, or something like that.

Although I would agree with that suggestion politically (He was just trying to avoid the heat), I do think it would infringe on her rights.

She also got tired of being called a racist, a label that she did not deserve.

Racism is pre-judging someone based on the color of their skin. Isn't pre-judging someone based on the actions of a few members of an organization just as bad?

If the Minutemen had the same mission statement as the KKK or the White Supremacists, I would agree that joining such would imply that all members are racist. That is just not the case with the Minutemen.

Whistleblower - "I think Semler resigned because Funk asked her not to attend the Minuteman Convention, or something like that."

Christ almighty - let's make up more stuff, while we're at it. I think Semler resigned because she's having a martian lovechild, or something like that . . .

Semler stated that on the radio this morning.

Whistle I think this post from Prime Buzz addresses your concerns. I felt the same way you do until I read it:

Submitted by OBrien on January 22, 2008 - 10:35am.

No governmental office or officer is silencing Frances Semler's freedom of speech or assembly.

She is as free today to dress up in a brown shirt, Sam Brown Belt, riding trousers and boots to goose step around her rose garden as she was yesterday or last year. My guess is that she will be on Lou Dobbs in a very short period of time, and Funkhouser will have to run from Lou's "reporters."

No one is guaranteed a right to hold an appointed political office. It is quite common for appointees to lose their political positions as a result of their political beliefs, which is simply a result of public accountability.

It would be a First Amendment case if the City, County or State tried to silence her political expression. Obviously, looking at the letter she released to the news media, she is able to speak out politically without interference from government.

You are welcome.

Whistleblower -

You were unclear. Which one did she claim on the radio - the martian lovechild story or the convention story? I don't listen to am radio, so I'm not up to speed on the sorts of thing you believe.

If that post was in reference to Semler being terminated, it would be appropriate. She resigned.

I just don't like the fact that she was labeled as a racist, when she made no statements or took any action that would support that label.

The commenter who appropriately noted that Frances will be seen on Lou Dobbs is prescient.

And Fox, and talk radio. Heck she's already doing it.

Frances has always had one agenda, and that agenda she clearly puts before city service. I've pointed that out umpteen times.

Frances, based upon her past behavior and the people egging her on, probably has national aspirations to use her "martyrdom".

It comes through loud and clear based upon the text of her resignation letter.

Unfortunately the mayors have created a Semlerstein.

And everybody in our city loses.

So does that mean that you support Frances Semler and Minutemen?

Who me?

Heck no!

Mistake from the beginning and I forecasted most of all of this happening.

And do you know what's worse - I talked above how this speaks to a gross error in leadership and management by the Funk and Gloria.

Well, politically, Funk and Gloria have now angered BOTH the minutemen/Semler supporters AND those who oppose the minutemen/Semler.

He has totally eliminated any support he has, from just about anybody on this issue.

I suspect, somewhere, someone will pipe up saying "Funk did the right thing", or "this is a non-issue".

I wonder who that could be?

Well, well, well, offee. This is going to be entertaining to watch.

Tell you what, I'll start off the defense, since it's non-existent thus far:

"Funk did really, really well in managing this issue. Semler may have accused him of betrayal because he's being a politician, but the flip side of that is Big Lug is authentic!!"

How's that?

You and a couple other dependable haters are the only ones who think a defense is necessary. The rest of us are happy she's resigned, and moving on.

You are "literally" alone.

Funkhouser and his staff was scheming this week by paying off Semler $80,000 to resign from the board of Parks and a story to go with it.

Apparently it is going well.
