Can I Get a Little Help?
My knowledge of sheriffs comes entirely from reggae and Westerns. I know we have one here in Jackson County, but I've never seen him outdraw someone on Main Street, or string up any rustlers over yonder by the corral. In short, I reckon our current sheriff is a complete failure, but he's not running for reelection, so I see no need to pull a Bob Marley on the lowdown varmint.
More seriously, the Missouri Ethics Commission shows 5 active candidates for the job, and I have no idea who's the best candidate, or even what makes a candidate best for the position.
Please share with me who I should be supporting and why.

John Bullard: Most Real Experience with 33 years. Most Dedication working full time all of those years. Pro Labor, Democrat, FOP and Deputy supported. None of the candidates want this position more than him. I strongly encourage you to endorse him.
Mike Mauer is a former deputy sheriff and a retired Independence police officer, and now has a successful security business in Jackson County. On top of that he is a hell of a nice guy.

Did you hear. Carl Bussey was acquited in the Debra Neal case.
Bullard, hands down the best candidate. All of what anon @ 11:05 said is true, and he started the Indy K-9 patrol from scratch w/ grant money.
This position may gain more importance if the County is able to pass legislation that will rein in places like Erotic city. The sheriff's department will be the law enforcement agency that oversees these county businesses. What with mud wrestling, alleged child rape, open drug sales, etc. currently it is like the wide open western days. I have no candidate to offer up, I am still thinking.
I agree with Anon and Craig. Bullard is the right candidate for the job! He is the ONLY candidate who has proudly dedicated his career to public service working full time in law enforcement for over 33 years. The other candidates are either part time or have left to private sectors for money. On top of that, deputies respect him.

You are right Mike. Screw anyone who retires from the police force and then goes to the private sector and is successful. I hate people smarter than me, too.
As a woman who has lived in the county for 30 years, I applaud the work of Mike Mauer who served as chairman of the Jackson County Domestic Violence Shelters Committee.
As a woman I have knowm Mike Mauer and I appreciate the work he did on behalf of domestic violence. He is a great and decent man and would make a great Shriff.
Hands down Mike Mauer. Most qualified, most loyal to Jackson County Democrats. Knows law enforcement, has the business expertise and has served our community.
I have been friends with John Bullard for the last few years, and am really proud to support him. As the member of an eastern Jackson County political club, I can vouch for the fact that John is a man of his word. He is also the hardest working candidate in the race, willing to take time with any constituent who has a question. I will be walking for John this spring, and i hope many more folks who care about good law enforcement will join me.
Mike Sharp is also running and although I don't know much about him - it would appear that he has the support of the insiders such as Dutch Newman.
with 6 candidates in the race and only Mauer and Bullard supporters posting, looks like Dan needs to expand his readership. Or are the other sheriff candidates just luddites.
Mauer is the law enforcement establishment candidate and yesterday his Uncle let off a female police officer who tortured a pregnant woman.
The mom said she was bleeding and about to lose her baby and the officer said: "How is that my problem. Its called a menstrual cycle honey."
Why would we elect a Mauer to a position of authority? We need change not the status quo!
John Bullard is the outsider with experience who can clean up the thuggish approach to law enforcement which haunts this city.
What does someone's uncle have to do with their fitness for office. Tell me who your uncles are and I will disqualify you for office, too.
The first poster said billard was the law enforcement candidate (FOP, deputies) and now a citizen who cares says he is an outsider.
So which is it? or is he just a politician who tries to be all things to all people?
Gone Mild you have not studied all the candidates. PLEASE GO TO SCHERERFORSHERIFF.COM he has more experience then all the others combined and he has more integrity then any of the others. Bullard hid in courthouse. Sharp was escorted in by inside help. Kranhenbuhl used his county I.D.
Mauer waited with Scherer outside. He came at 5:A.M.
