Bush vs. Nixon - Race to the Bottom

This Modern World has a fun chart comparing Bush's approval and disapproval numbers to his moral predecessor, Dick Nixon. Trend lines show that Bush will probably win the "most-hated' title, unless he does the right thing and resigns.

Of course, if we compare presidential accomplishments, the similarity fades. Nixon succeeded in engaging with China, while Bush caught a big fish. I'd give the nod to Nixon on that one. On the other hand, the Watergate Scandal rocking the Bush Administration has hookers, while the Nixon one only had burglars, so Bush wins that round.

Who will wind up winning the Most Hated President title? Only time will tell, but my money is riding on Bush.

An interesting topic. I'm really interested why some people really hate Bush so much. I'm not talking about those who are dissatisifed. I'm talking about those who hate. Let's start with the war. I'm sure there are many who hate him because of the war. Do those same people hate LBJ who was responsible for tens of thousands more deaths for Viet Nam, a war where we weren't attacked? And do they remember it was Nixon (the other one on your most hated list) who got us out of Viet Nam. Let's break it down hate by hate.

Interesting les....I would have bet attitude had a lot to do with it. He does have a sort of over the top stern father air about him. Eat your wheaties or else type of thing. That's hard to forgive totally unlike Clinton who nearly everyone has forgiven by now, even me...lol

I know a lot of people think he is incompetent. I don't agree with that. I do think he has had some bad advisors and refuses to admit it.

Thanks for your perspective.

Hypocrisy (less government for Big Business, more government in YOUR BEDROOM).

Stupidity (and his unabashed PRIDE in being stupid - he's proud that he doesn't read newspapers or get any information that isn't spoon-fed to him by his partisan sycophants).

Arrogance ("I don't pay attention to the polls" = "I don't care what Americans think"). Gonna do what I wanna do and you can all go fuck yourselves.

Cowboy mentality that thinks it's actually a GOOD thing to piss everyone off. "You're either with us, or against us". There's a new Sherrif in town, and I'm goin' after the guy who tried to kill my Pa. We'll "doctor" the intelligence later and spin it how we want it.

MORE enemies of America instead of more friends, and he doesn't have a clue that this is a BAD THING. We'll be paying for this for 100 years.

Refusal to admit to even the smallest mistake.

Belief that he was Chosen By God to lead the Last Remaining Superpower in order to hasten the Second Coming of Christ and Armageddon. Makes him no better than that whack job in Iran who believes it's his job to bring back the Hidden Imam. Both of them are fundamentalist lunatics.

Did I mention hypocrisy? His willingness to throw our soldiers into a never-ending meat grinder like Vietnam while he himself took the easy-rich-boy way out of THAT conflict and didn't even fulfill his minimum National Guard duties?

Those are just a few reasons why some of us think that he just may be BATSHIT CRAZY and are scared to death that America may not survive his presidency.

XO said, "I don't pay attention to the polls = I don't care what americans think."

Well golly gee. The secret to a great president has been revealed! Next time I'm voting for the guy that runs the country by consensus. That's what you guys want anyway.

Duke Cunningham? Is that the best you can come up with? This is "rocking the Bush administration?"
Dan, you disappoint me....again.

Give me a break. You all want so bad to get revenge for Clinton. Bush has made mistakes, just like every president before him. And every president who will come after him.

You guys get down off your high hobby horse and run along home now. Supper's getting cold and your parents are worried.

Ps -Dan nice link again. Taking us to the opinion page on Yahoo. If you have to engineer a story, it's not a story.

LJ - regarding the link, I'll admit that I somewhat lazily linked to the first news article I could find on the topic, rather than engaging in a time-consuming search for the most thorough or exhaustive analysis out there. My bad. Still, if you look at the link, you'll see that the article actually comes from The Nation, a well-respected magazine. Not one you'd subscribe to, but a decent source, nonetheless. I'm not sure what you mean by the story being manufactured, anyhow. Does that mean that Porter Goss was not involved? Does that mean that Dusty Foggo was not involved? No matter how you look at it, or where you find your articles, the Watergate hooker parties are giving the Bush administration a hangover.

Your attack on XO is way off base though. If you think about it, I'm sure you'll agree that there is plenty of ground between what Bush's arrogant (and probably false) claim that he doesn't pay attention to polls, and your straw man of a president who runs the country by concensus.

I'm not sure I understand the rest of your post well enough to respond.

lj - Not sure what country YOU live in (or WANT to live in), but in the United States of America, the Constitution implies that the citizens should have some influence over how they are governed.

If I were the leader of such a country and 70% of the citizens told me I was doing a lousy job and taking the country in the wrong direction, I'd feel obligated to listen to them.

Instead, our current president takes the attitude that he's the "decider" and he can do whatever the fuck he wants and we have to take it and like it because we are all his bitches.

Yeah, I have a problem with that.
