Something's Fishy With the Recall Excuse
The Recall Group is claiming that the only reason it is not seeking a recall in court is because they don't have $10,000 to bankroll a lawsuit. The Star does its best to bury the smelly corpse with the remarkably gullible claim that "In the end, the effort to recall Mayor Mark Funkhouser simply ran out of money."
Folks, I don't think they're telling us the whole truth.
First off, there's no way they couldn't find $10,000 if they really thought they had a chance in court. Friends of other candidates would find a way to make it happen overnight. Barring that, they could have gone back to the streets and raised the money in a couple weekends. Not even counting the bogus signatures, that would be less than a dollar each. This thing has been headed up by a real estate lawyer and an experienced campaign professional - no way in hell are they giving up because they can't raise $10,000.
Second, they had a lawyer right there. Harris Wilder, their long-winded spokesperson, is an attorney in good standing, fully capable of typing up a petition and filing it. Dividing the $10,000 by $200 per hour (a fairly low rate for experienced attorneys), they're ballparking the thing at 50 hours of time - a long week of work, perhaps, but dwarfed by the hours other people put in on this whole misguided effort.
Third, there wasn't a deadline here. If they thought they had a valid claim, they could spend the time they need to raise the funds for the suit. Why would they throw in the towel so quickly? Remember when, a few weeks ago, they made a big deal out of hiring an experienced Civil Rights lawyer to give them legal advice?
And that, friends, is the fly in the ointment.
They've received their legal advice, and they know it's time to exit the stage. They failed to gather enough signatures, and no lawyer can change that fact. On top of that, I imagine those volunteers who submitted bogus signatures begged for this thing to go away as quickly as possible, in the hopes of avoiding criminal charges. When you ask someone for $10,000, they ask smart questions, and I imagine every donor lost interest the moment they saw the legal grounds proffered.
By pretending that their effort is shutting down because they could not raise $10,000, the Recall people are refusing one last time to admit the truth. They failed, plain and simple. $10,000 was not going to bring them any success, or they would have their $10,000, and plenty more where that came from. But they don't have to admit that to themselves if they can point the finger at someone else for failing to rescue them from their own failure.

Funk is a crook. He has broken the state constitutions prohibition against nepotism with Gloria and his daughter, and he has violated other corruption statutes through his dealings with the Blackwood family.
The fixed actions by the Bds of Elections cannot change that Dan. Funkhouser is a crook and you spend a great deal of time defending him.
Whether Funkhouser is a crook or not is irrelevant to Dan's post.
It was clear from the beginning that the recall effort was going to be a waste of time.
Crook - Wow! If all that were true, you'd think the recall effort would have been successful, but it wasn't! So maybe you're just imagining things, and ranting.
I suspect there is some truth to your analysis. And further, if they got a good attorney, he probably looked at their actual petition and told them, "Either you lose now with signatures or you lose later with the gravity of your claims."
I suspect they decided to lose now while they could save face.
So guess various City Council members will have to wait longer to run for Mayor?
And then there is this:

Crook - Wow! If all that were true,
Wasn't Funk fined for violating some campaign contribution law?
Flawed recall effort + flawed city charter + flawed petition charges/allegations + a very flawed Mayor + Harris Wilder + Anne McGregor and the myth of Obama organizing + Jeff Roe & Co somewhere/how = .....
= ......
= ......
I haven't the faintest effing idea what it all adds up to.
Dan the rule is if you delete a post you leave a "Marker." You do not do that; therefore, you are leaving a fraudulent record.
Fraud Dan. Look it up.
Neighbor - Maybe if you're nice, someday you will be offered a position on my rule-making committee. Until then, dream on.

Danny Danny Danny.... you on a delete people's comments tear again, I see :) Were all these comments PERSONALLY OFFENSIVE or are you just your average delusional Pro-Funk A Dunk ranting blogger???
Stop deleting every comment you don't like Danny!
Tony, can you help us out here, oh powerful one?
Looks like Dan is taking advice from readers now. Even readers who he made fun of before.
When you cannot buy a judge for $10K you gotta know your issue stinks.
Dan, any chance you will let Tony take over your blog?
Why Tony? Did you see his latest thread?
Looks like Dan is taking advice from readers now. Even readers who he made fun of before.

This is a post related to Mr. and Mrs. Funk A Dunk. We all know that when this topic is before him, Dan leaves the realm of sanity and reason and morphs into some thin skinned angry blogger. Delete and Delude rule the roost in that alternate universe.
We like him more when he is his usual level headed open minded self.
Ina - you know, you are right - I do tend to delete more comments in threads about Funkhouser than in other topics, but the comments I delete are ALWAYS obscene, nasty, vicious, or personal attacks on my family, my religion, or similar things I don't care to host. Why is it that writing something supportive of our mayor brings out the sickos, who seek to destroy, ridicule and harm?
Maybe because Funkhouser is an unpopular mayor?
Just a wild thought I'm throwin out there.
Assuming that he really is "unpopular", even though a determined "grassroots" group headed by a real estate lawyer couldn't gain enough signatures over the course of more than a month to even get a new election - assuming all that - why would the topic of him inspire such hatred, such debased language, such vitriol?
Personally, I think the people who object to Funkhouser so strongly have other mental issues. But that's just a guess.
Dan there is no problem with deleting them if you leave a record that they were deleted. You were not doing that and that makes for an inaccurate record.
Did you see Tony is backing up racism spouted by Eric Wesson of the KC Call? Far worse than the old rose lady ever said. Wesson attacked Jews and Whites with bigoted slurs and Tony is covering for him. If Funk had done the same Tony would be asking for a revolution.

There's no problem with my choice to delete any comment I choose. BUT, the times they get deleted without a "marker" are the ones that are posted with names that are offensive in and of themselves. You posted anonymously, and if you had posted something disgusting, I would have deleted it and it would show up as a deleted comment. But if you had posted under an offensive name, then the "marker" would include your offensive name. I'm pretty darned tolerant with disagreement and even some obnoxious names (witness the first comment to this post), but the hateful, ugly anti-Funk crowd always pushes things way too far.
Tony is still trying to cover for the racist comments made by his homeboy Eric Wesson, far worse than anything Frances Semler ever said.
Tony is losing his grip.
He is defending racism now and shilling for advertisers.
For a pretty much unrelated question, why did Gloria's insurance pay out money in her settlement? Under what claim would a home owners or umbrella policy pay that?
I was researching getting an umbrella policy. Some cover slander and libel. Was that what the claim was made under?
I will not vote for any incumbent in the next election. Funkhouser is a failure but so is the rest of the council. Throw out the bums, I say. Not a single one is worth keeping.
And by the way, Tony rules.
It is that kind of thinking that will guarantee that none of Tony's ideas will ever amount to anything.
I CAN'T HAVE EVERYTHING SO I WILL NOT PLAY!
(Which really means "I am too fucking stupid to understand anything so I will not live life.)
Anon 2:15 pm. Surely you are not including Councilwoman Gottstein in your blanket statement?
