10 days.

8 breweries.

4 crossings of the continental divide.

12 independent bookstores.

1 moose.

3 bears.

2 brown trout.

1 big rainbow trout.

0 chain restaurants.

Haven't totaled the bills, but it was worth it.

Did I miss anything??

Just Britney's VMA comeback. And I trimmed the grass along the front sidewalk. That's about it. Dog days.

You need to know that Funk and Gloria showed strength in the face of bullying by blacks and hispanics and protected Frances Semler from attack. I know the liberals are ranting about Funk being the "great white hope" but I for one am a very happy white guy who knows that Alvin Brooks would have caved to the special interest extortion that Funk is standing up to. Standing up against minority pressure groups does give this white guy hope.

Well, ssidedem is one happy white guy.

Dan, judging from the relaxing vacation from which he just returned, is a happy white guy.

As for me, I'm happy just to be alive, and what the heck, truth be told I'm doubly happy I am white.

We're just a bunch of happy-go-lucky whitefellas!

Woot!

Very funny mainstream, I have been reading your anti-funkhouser and anti-semler diatribes all over the local blogs. You are part of the problem not part of the solution.

Ooh! Ooh! Can I be part of the problem too? That's always more fun than being part of the solution.

Also, Funkhouser's parks board stood up to a bunch of dog owners who had the nerve to propose and offer to pay for an environmentally friendly dog park in Waldo! They shut them right down and saved the whole city from the threat of people actually using the parks. Whew! That was a close one!

I can see you now. Leaned back with a good book in one hand and a fishing pole in the other, cooler with local beers to your left...and your right...

Better you were on vacation. It got kinda ugly in the blogosphere while you were gone.

The paleness of my skin is about the least interesting thing about me.

I really don't want to be defined by it.

Bingo - you hit the racism issue on the head. You don't want to be defined by the color of your skin, because it doesn't define who you are. Well-stated!

Now, think for a second about how that would feel in the context of being a black teenager at a traffic stop. Think about how it would feel in the context of a hispanic worker in the eyesight of Missouri's governor, or a gun-toting member of the Minutemen.
