Vick and Bush

I agree with the disgust people are directing toward Michael Vick.

My only question is whether he his treatment of his dogs is any less humane than Bush's treatment of uncharged prisoners. At least Vick isn't using our tax money to fund his sickness.

Yeah -- but the dogs also haven't been involved in making war on the United States, either.

Actually, they have exactly the same level of proof of being involved in the GWOT as the prisoners.

And your basis for claiming that they have the same level of proof is . . . . . . ?

That would be the fact that there has not been a shred of evidence presented to anyone that would indicate where the GITMO detainees were captured, what they were doing when they were captured, what they are charged with, what evidence exists to support those charges or what if any exculpatory evidence exists.

Dan and XO are right. The GITMO detainees are just like dogs.

Can't wait till those little innocent darlings get transferred to Leavenworth. They'll have lots of visitors there who will worry about their well being and make their sure their Korans aren't flushed and such. Heck, some of you may want to start a support group. Just sayin.

I say that in America we give people certain rights. We give people a right to trial (Amendment VI). People get due process of law (Amendment V). The accused gets to confront witnesses (Amendment VI). Because of that system, we have earned the respect, friendship and support of our allies. We shed blood for them, they shed blood for us.

We have lost the respect of our allies. Give the GITMO prisoners a public trial, let them get convicted and then send them to prison. The Bush system of not showing evidence hurts America. Show us the proof. Otherwise, the analogy of dogs ain't too far off. People should not be treated like dogs. I agree with the religious right that God made people in his image, even the GITMO prisoners (of course, the RR may not agree with me).

People are humanizing dogs and cats. Thats what they are an animal. There not above people but most cat and dog lovers think they are. For example Pet Cementaries. How stupid.
Then we have Beauty shows why not dog or cat shows.
For the Gitmo, we are considered a non-barbaric country. If we start to think their way we will become like them. We have to try not to fall into that trap of thinking.

My point Dan, is that you have no idea what their level of proof is.

If you are advocating that our government give them a trial and use its evidence rather than sitting back and watching these folks rot in jail without a trial, I am with you. However, to say the government has no evidence is just as much of a guess as the right wing bloggers make when they wax eloquent about how bad these prisoners must be.

The problem is the lack of accountability and the failure to act. There may be a failure of proof, but we won't know that until the government does something such as give these prisoners a trial.
