Things Not to do to Me

A four hour meeting, starting at 4 pm.

Conflicting with an opportunity to drink good beer and eat good barbecue for free at the Schlafly lecture.

To discuss a fifty page report that has been sent to us with instructions to read it before the meeting.

And then spending the first two hours literally reading portions of the report to us.

Highlighted by PowerPoint slides repeating material in the report.

And then keeping us 20 minutes over, so I'm late meeting a friend.

Good causes do not make bad meetings any more tolerable.

Ack. The pettest of pet peeves--teachers/presenters so incompetent or unprepared that the best they can do is read the material to you. Lazy, insulting and infuriating. Not to mention boring.

Bummer, I HATE people who innefficiently use meetings. It's fine if they waste their time, but it's not ok to waste mine (it's ok if I waste my time, but not someone else :))

And, you missed a great time and good presentation at the Library. The Tom Schlafley thing was definitely the most fun I've ever had at a library.

I just might tape this quote to my forehead the next time I have a meeting.

The worst. The absolute fucking WORST!

The only justification I ever heard for this asshattery was "Well, if we just send it out in email without following it up with a meeting, people won't get around to reading it."

NEWSFLASH! If I don't have time to read the 20mb Quarterly TPS Report you sent me in email, then I probably don't have time to sit through a 4 hour fucking meeting listening to you read it to me, now do I, Sparky?

I can actually do my work, or I can sit on my ass for half a day doing nothing and listening to you talk about my work.

What's your pleasure?
