Call me a cab . . .

Among the countless details I've learned about our two mayoral candidates, today's Star brings the innocuous but potentially upsetting detail that Alvin Brooks does his jogging at midnight.

I don't know about you, but, before today, if I were driving home at midnight and saw Alvin Brooks jogging, I'd pull over and call a cab to drive my drunk ass home.

Dan, I'm cutrious if you have an opinion on the attack piece against Gamble that arrived in the mail today?

I know you know Beth, as you have said before, so I think all of us would benefit from your informed opinion.

I haven't seen it, but, by description, it sounds like it was sloppy, inaccurate and unfair. It also sounds like it was a third party piece, which would be out of Beth's control.

It also bears mentioning that if the piece were slamming Beth, the Gamble people would be claiming that she did it herself to make Gamble look bad, just as they claimed back when we were discussing the rogue email.

I'll be glad when this race is over.

Dan, I agree 100%, it will be great when it's over.

I received the piece, and it was actually well-executed - first class production, very professional and written for maximum impact. Obviously wrong on the facts, but very well done for the purpose for which it was intended.

I went out and dug it out of the recycling. It's nasty, but not near as nasty as the hit piece they sent out on Beth.

Sad thing is, both candidates are apparently good people - I wish their supporters would behave.

And thanks, Les, for taking the straight line.

Interesting, I didn't hear about that. What hit piece did Gamble send out on Beth?

I don't have it anymore - I'll try to find a copy and scan it in.

What's your prediction in the race? I really don't have one - a week ago, I think it was clearly Gamble's, but the TV probably helped Beth, but I don't know whether it did enough.

I think the edge may be with Beth. I think she's going to benefit (and Gamble will be disadvantaged) from Funkhouser's successful efforts.

Just a theory, but with rain tomorrow the edge could go to both Funk and Beth ...assuming that people that don't feel strongly about city gov't won't make it to
the polls, and the people that do will more likely be Funkhouser supporters....plus Beth has TV and billboards...

Even though I am backing both Funk and Beth, I feel like most Funk voters are pro-Gamble.

But nothing we think will matter in 22 hours.

Dan is a Gottstein lover. Negative goes out against Gamble and of course its not hers. Beth says Gamble hired Roe and that too came from Gamble's campaign...as did the email she sent to Four Freedoms. She can do nothing wrong or bad...LOL

Anonymous - I'm not a Gottstein lover, though I am a supporter of hers. I've never claimed she's perfect, and I've been more than fair to Doug Gamble.

I'm indisputably correct about where the Gamble piece came from - what more can I say?

I've never denied that Beth suspected Roe was working on Gamble's campaign, have I? In fact, I called for both campaigns to drop it, and Beth did, but the Gamble campaign continues to whine.

All that said, I wasn't really passionate about the election until I saw the piece above.

Dan, I'm still puzzled by your unbridled support for Beth. I'm sure she's a nice enough person, but I haven't seen anything from her that would indicate she was even the desire to be successful in city council, let alone the skills. I've attended three public forums, she missed two of them, and was completely unaware of the issues during the 3rd.

I think you're WAY over-reacting to a quote from a legitimate news source in the city that just happens to be named the Jewish Chronicle. There was nothing that was blatant about the Gamble piece IMO. And I think the piece that went out against Gamble that was filled with complete untruths is the worst campaign literature I've seen in KC in a while.

I also agree that I think most Funk supporters are also Gamble supporters. I think there is a fairly large group of people out there who are very anti-establishment -- and I think Beth represents more of the establishment in the eyes of most...

I give a slight edge to Doug, if only because I think most of the Im, Tancredi and Valenciano supporters will stear toward Doug...
