Check out the Apple refurbs on their web site and don't forget that your college student kids probably qualify for a great educational discount if they want to buy their old man a mac ( in exchange for some extra support from the family perhaps). I think the educational discounts allow the student to buy one laptop, one desktop and one of each type of iPod each year. Unless they are really loading up on gear, the can probably get you what you need at a good price.
