Kris "K" Kobach Teaching Immigration?
This is funny. UMKC, while working on the one hand to reduce racial tensions and minority feelings of exclusion, is having none other than Kris "2000 mile wall" Kobach teach Immigration Law at the School of Law. While Kris has many foolish right-wing positions, he has achieved his greatest fame by being an insanely anti-Latino cretin, going so far as to claim that we need to build a wall along our southern border (but not the northern border - Canadians are mostly white). The guy that UMKC is having teach Immigration Law was endorsed by a group that wants to end immigration entirely. On the other hand, I guess it's better that he teach something most lawyers don't deal with, like immigration, rather than something like Civil Procedure, an area that he clearly knows nothing about.
In light of the fact they have an anti-immigration whacko teaching Immigration Law, I started thinking about other classes that UMKC might be offering in the coming semester.
* Introduction to Prescription Regulation, Professor Rush Limbaugh, College of Pharmacy.
* Driving School, Professor Ted Kennedy.
* Strategic Planning, Professor Donald Rumsfeld.
* Ethics in Government, Professor Roy Blunt.
* Civil Engineering - Special Topics in Bridge Building, Professor Ted Stevens.
* History of Religion, Professor Mel Gibson.
* Physical Fitness, Coach Mangino.
* Public Speaking, Professor George W. Bush.
* Ethics in Journalism, Professor Bill O'Reilly.
* Christian Theology, Reverend Fred Phelps.
Are there any other classes you want to see offered?

I agree 100%. Give me some good reasons why a student from Missouri should have to pay out-of-state tuition at a Kansas school when an illegal alien should not. And, just for fun, let's assume the Missouri student is poor since you are such an advocate for the poor and disadvantaged.

How long did you have to look to find something from him that wasn't frothing-at-the-mouth insane? I personally think it's pretty cool that Kansas is supportive of getting Kansas high school kids educated, but I appreciate your love of those of us on the Missouri side. Either way, his lawsuit was a failure that would get a 1L kicked out of most law schools.
And having him teach Immigration Law is still stupid. Kinda like having George Allen teach black history. Or having Cheney teach Gun Safety.
We'll see if the 10th Circuit agrees with you.
What I care about are the rights of citizens and legal immigrants. Illegal immigrants are lawbreakers any way you slice it and should get no special benefits.
Perhaps you should do a little more research yourself before assaulting someone's character.

The kids the law is aimed at are high school age, presumably here with their parents, and not really in a position to travel back to a country they might not even remember.
But, regardless, there are three issues here. One is whether the law you cite is good policy. That's debatable. The second is whether it's legal. That's debatable, too. The third is whether Kobach had the legal ability to assemble a valid test case for the law. That's not really debatable - he didn't.
I'm not sure exactly what research you wanted me to do before poking fun at Kobach. I knew about and have written about the anti-high-school-student lawsuit he wasted our tax dollars on.
And, to get back to the point, having him teach Immigration Law is still stupid. Kind of like having Michael Brown teach Crisis Management.

I never denied he knows immigration law. But knowing the law on a topic is not the same as being the most qualified to teach it. That was kind of the point of the post.
Yes, he knows immigration law, but here's the problem.
He's not a leftist whack job.
That obviously makes him unqualified to teach at a university.
Anonymous - you obviously know little about UMKC School of Law. There are a few liberals, and a few conservatives. It is about as "whacko leftist" as your average Rotary club.
