99 Bottles of Beer on the Blog - Young's Double Chocolate Stout

It's 44 degrees in Kansas City this evening, after a gray, rainy day. The radiators are starting to clank and hiss - postseason baseball is on the TV.

It's time for a cold weather beer, and Young's Double Chocolate Stout is my choice. It pours dark as espresso, capped with a tan head that stays there till the end. The aroma is chocolatey, with caramel and almond undertones. It smells like good chocolate toffee.

The flavor is sweeter and lighter than you might expect after enjoying the aroma and seeing the color. The chocolate is definitely there, as are the roasted malt bitter tones of a more typical stout. But the flavor is not overpowering with deep, dark flavors. There's a bit of cherry or raspberry hitting some high notes, and making the beer much more interesting.

The mouthfeel is full, but not super-rich. Again, it's a more balanced beer than you'd expect from a "luxury" Double Chocolate Stout. It's a perfect dessert beer - not heavy enough to put you into a coma, but definitely a satisfying drink.

Two of my basic food groups are chocolate and beer! If anyone else wants some of the Double Choco Stout buy it now. When I get back from lunch there may not be any available within a 3 county radius!

Where do you buy your booze? My corner shop offers both Miller Lite and and Bud...

I'm sorry, but beer and chocolate DO NOT go together.

But dark chocolate and bourbon? Now you're talking baby!

You want a sensual experience?

You and your wife/gf/whatever take a square of Godiva dark chocolate, lay it on each others tongue.

You each take a sip of a fine, small-batch bourbon, and just let those two mingle in your mouth until the chocolate melts.

When the chocolate has completely melted (NO CHEWING!), swallow the chocolatly-bourbon-goodness and then kiss passionately.

Jeez! I should start charging for classes at the Community College.

Happy in Bag - I got this bottle at Bebiglia's in Brookside. I highly recommend the beer selections at Lucas Liquors at 135th and State Line, or Gomers.

XO - Thank you for the porn. You should ghost-write IMs for horny Republicans.

XO- So, I read your ah, suggestion, to the hubby. His eyes twinkled. But the moment is lost after I read Dan's comment to him. Oh well.

Spyder - Just do it! Don't talk about it, don't wait for approval. And for God's sake don't bring Dan into it! LOL!

Dark chocolate.

Bourbon.

Tongues.

Trust me on this.

Your hubby's eye's will do more than twinkle. They'll cry with joy.

XO- The problem is that neither one of us drink bourbon. Would it work with other lickers ( oopps!)? Hell, I don't need bourbon with him. We don't even need the chocolate either. Maybe save the chocolate for afterwards...

And as much as I love Dan I DEFINATELY won't include him!!!

Young's Double Chocolate Stout makes a great soap! Sacred Showers' "Brewski Shave" soap is made with it.
www.SacredShowers.com, Beer Soap.

Good stuff.
