anon: C'mon now, what would that do to the one pupil that attends the Brookside public school?

The idea is to reverse the flight to Kansas or Mo. private schools. It sure would be nice if Brookside residents could send their kids to a local public school, especially considering their tax dollars are paying for these schools.

Seriously, folks, it is time we do something about this problem. And we can do something about this problem.

Terrible, terrible idea. We need to unify this city and educate our children, not split the district on the basis of wealth.

"Unify the city"? We have been trying to "unify the city" for 30 years. That is a great slogan, and look how well it has worked in practice. By all measures, the KCMSD is a failure, and even the present and former Board members will privately tell you that there is no reason to expect better things to come.

"Unify the city"? Try preaching that slogan to the kids who year after year do not receive a basic education. "Unify the city"? Tell the kids who "graduate" from KCMSD but still can't read. "Unify the city"? Tell the parent who cannot send her child to the public school that is just down the block. (The same public school that the mother attended when she was young. At that time, the school was one of the best in the nation; now the school has metal detectors.)

Your "unify the city" lecture is falling on deaf ears. It is time for change.

I agree. No more excuses or grandiose plans. Dismantle the KCMSD and give the kids in Kansas City a chance.
