Coffman still Stumbling at the Starting Gate?

Back in early September, I did a post about Amy Coffman's candidacy for the 44th district, and mentioned that she, a political new-comer to town, had stumbled at the starting gate by not having a website to let us know where she stands before she sent out invitations to her campaign kick-off.

My wise and gentle observations touched off a bit of a firestorm of comments, spilling into a second post. In the second round of comments, her treasurer visited and commented -
Amy will have a website at www.amycoffman.com that will provide a great deal of information about her, and that will hopefully be of use to people who want to know more about her and what she will bring to the job. I expect that website will be up either contemporaneously with her kick-off event, or shortly thereafter.
As of this morning, though, we're still stuck with a "coming soon" notice, pushing an event that happened two weeks ago. The expectation of an informative website contemporaneous or shortly after the kick-off event has not been met. It seems like a fairly reasonable expectation, and one that could and should have been met.

Now, really, it's just a website for an election that won't happen for over a year. I don't mean to make a huge deal out of the website itself. When it is finally posted, I'm sure that it will have nice pictures and maybe even a few word-smithed position statements designed to avoid offending anyone. I'm sure that, in plenty of time for the election, we will get a perfectly adequate website from Amy Coffman.

Here's why I even mention it, though - the 44th District is a strongly democratic district, and we ought to be sending a genuine leader down to Jefferson City with a can-do attitude who demonstrates competence and energy. A campaign presents an opportunity to show who you are and how you'll operate in office, and one campaign is stuck on "coming soon" and not meeting expectations, while the other one includes a job evaluation by the U.S. Director of Intelligence in Afghanistan - "Second Lieutenant (2LT) Kander is an outstanding leader and a superb intelligence officer … his hard work directly resulted in arresting enemies and saving lives … leading by example". Sounds like he exceeds expectations.

The DOI job evaluation is a bit over the top. How about sticking to apples to apples comparisons? It doesn't take kickin terrorist ass to get up a website.

Sophia, it's tough to do an apples to apples comparison when Amy's afraid to let us look at her fruit basket.

While I agree she needs to get her website up soon, how many actual primary voters are looking for it at this time? Maybe 100 and half of those have already made up their minds. It is a non-issue.

Like Dan said, it's a non-issue as far as the site goes, but it shows that she suffers from a major flaw - an inability to get things accomplished. The site's not important, but her incompetence and ineffectiveness are.

She got bashed on this (I thought a little unfairly) way back in early September, and she still hasn't fixed it.

The Republicans will eat her alive if she can't even live up to the expectations of her campaign treasurer, and if she's so sloppy that she is still advertising an event that happened two weeks ago.

Not a good start for Amy at all.

It is not incompetence. A majority of candidates who will be on the August 08 ballot do not have websites up yet. There is probably even someone you will be voting for who doesnt have one up yet. Are they all incompetent?

Only the ones whose treasurers said we can expect one by now.

I can't think of any declared candidates in contested races who don't have websites. If there are any, I would join with Dan in saying that they are stumbling at the starting gate. If it's already time to raise money, it's already time to explain why someone should give it.

Dan -

For someone you think so little of (i.e. Coffman), you sure spend a lot of time writing about her. Worried?

I don't think little of Amy Coffman. I've only met her once, but I've heard she's a perfectly nice person. She may even be a good candidate for office, but, so far, she's failing to provide any evidence of that.

You only half answer my question. Why are yo so fixated on this particular race? You have had more puff pieces about Kander, and negative posts about Coffman, than posts about any other race (including Pres., Gov., etc.) Again, what is it about this particular state rep. race that has you so obsessed?

No answer to my question?

Sorry, anonymous, the question wasn't really all that interesting. What races do you want me to focus on? Its my local house race, and I know one of the candidates fairly well. Kind of a natural for me to write about, especially when Amy hands me material.

I don't feel all that compelled to offer my opinions on national races at this stage - there are more informed voices than mine at this stage. The other state races are mostly boring at this point - except for AG, which I've written about a few times.

Which races do you want to hear about?
